Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to common questions about the exchange program
What is the application deadline?
Applications must be submitted before January 14th. This deadline is crucial as we need time to complete the selection process, exchange documents with partner districts, arrange ticketing and visas for departure in July/August.
How much does the program cost?
The total estimated cost for Indian host parents is approximately ₹6,00,000 - ₹6,50,000. This includes all expenses for sending your child abroad and hosting an inbound student in India for 10-11 months. For detailed breakdown, visit our Costs & Financial Information page.
What age range is eligible for the program?
Students must be between 15 years and 17 years 6 months old at the time of application. Some districts may allow exceptions up to 6 months over 19 years, subject to their discretion. Ideal time is after completing 10th standard.
Do I need to be a Rotarian to participate?
No! Non-Rotarians can participate in the program. However, the student must be sponsored by a Rotary Club (without financial commitments from the club). Some clubs may offer partial sponsorship at their discretion. We encourage you to spread the word among friends and relatives!
Which countries can I exchange to?
We currently exchange with USA, Germany, France, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, Czechia, and Slovakia. We also have requests from Mexico and Venezuela. Country selection is based on student ranking in the interview (January 2026). We can try to arrange exchanges with other countries based on availability.
Is it mandatory to host a student in return?
Yes, parents sending their child must host a Rotary Youth Exchange student from another country in their home for 10-11 months (August to May/June). You must provide a separate, private room (not shared) - this is compulsory. The reciprocal arrangement ensures a meaningful cultural exchange for both families.
How safe is the Rotary Youth Exchange program?
RYE is one of the safest exchange programs in the world. Students are monitored by Rotary officers at International, Country, Zone, District, Regional, and Club levels. Comprehensive orientation programs are conducted, and host families are carefully selected and vetted. 24/7 emergency support is available throughout the exchange year.
How do I get started with the application?
First, contact your local Rotary club to sponsor your application. Then, complete the preliminary application form with all required information and signatures. The interview and selection process takes place in January 2026. Visit our Application Process page for detailed step-by-step guidance.
